Welcome to the SBOL Beginner's Guide!

This guide should help you set-up SBOL to play with others. Keep in mind that this game is very old and may crash on modern systems. It is also playable on Linux. However, it doesn't function as well compared to Windows. These accounts won't transfer over when the project is far more restored to how it was in the early 2000's. If the text in-game is gibberish, you need to change your locale through changing your system locale to Japanese or have an emulator to do that for you.

  1. Registering an Account
  2. Registering an account is very important for anyone to be able to play. To do this you have to go to the sb-online.net website and click the button that says register. Fill in the Username, Password, and Secret code. You need to type "rollingguy8" in the secret box. Verify yourself by clicking the captcha, and you now have an account.

  3. Downloading & Playing SBOL
  4. Downloading SBOL is very simple to do. Go to the sb-online.net website and click download. From there, extract the files in the file location you prefer. When you are done with that, double-click on the SBOL2.3.0 folder.

Next, open the launcher (Start.exe) to change some settings. You can change the language of the launcher by clicking the top right that says EN or JP next to the Version number. Do note that the launcher will overwrite your files (including server settings) if you don't click on cancel every time you open the SB launcher.

You can choose three settings in the options:

I would recommend exiting the launcher and going into the Server.ini file before launching the SBClient to change the server you are on. Without changing them, you will stay stuck in the login screen. Change the file to what you see on screen. This will use the EU server instead of the long dead US server.

When you launch the game, input your username and password. Make sure to click on the box which saves your username and password.

Clicking "System" would show the options on this screen which contain the volume settings, graphics quality, and controls.

When you are ready, login and input your handle. This will be what other players see and cannot be changed.

In the next screen you will pick your first car. As of the writing of this guide, you can choose any playable car which might change when the project is more complete. This time I chose the 1998 Toyota Mark II Tourer V.

This loading screen will remind you of the controls.

When you finally load into the Beginner course, you are now in the world of SBOL!
